Between the lurgy and a general slump in modelling interest partially caused by cold weather there really hasn’t been much done. I have been reading a few Ospreys on both German and Japanese defence works and Japanese night fighters etc. so modelling has not been entirely neglected. 

I also fixed the airbrush booth venting tube with tubing from B$%$gs along with wire and duct tape 🙂 .

I restarted the B17 with a much clearer vision on the armament choices at least. The front half stays with 0.50s but the following are changed – mid upper and lower get twin barbettes a la the He 177, MG81Zs for the side windows and a MG131 for the rear turret again like the He177.

I have started the wings and am still yet to get the fuselage together mostly due to the rear wheel well being poorly fitting. The instructions are quite old school so lots of checking before gluing needed.

More work today on the B17

Surprising thing today was reading an old war comic to find the following –

I wasn’t aware this tank was that well known 50 years ago.

I spoke too soon about the B17 as the mojo left and it returned to the box with a new box labelled as below so I get the armament mix correct the next time it emerges.

No art prizes for this effort ! 🙂

This week saw another visit to the city to meet a friend and a quick visit to Hobbyco. In case anyone doubts the rise of Gundam this is now on the inside of the store.

The mojo has finally returned if only temporarily. The KV1 haystack is back out for painting with some last details done and I’ve assembled and primed a DnD figure.

This is a spider which needed three legs adding then priming in Vallejo rattle can black primer. This works quite well and levels beautifully. I thought I had overdone it but it looks quite good so far.

A good evenings work!

Wet weather has somewhat plagued my modelling in the last few days. The Vallejo primer on the spider as well as some paint I had added on the thorax are both still sticky so this will be put to one side.

The KV2 has had two coats of AK  4BO airbrushed with the second being a lighter shade. And also a coat of an even lighter shade went on today.

I was going to airbrush Tamiya clear over the top on the KV2 but just want to make sure it is well cured before I do this. I’ve tested this on a paint mule and it looks good, not too satiny at all.

I head off on Thursday for Cairns and their armour musuem next week so modelling will be on hold until late August.
