Week 34 Sunday update – it’s done

It’s become obvious in this last stage that I really should have done this in a different sequence. Putting the fuel tank on the back of the truck caused many swear words compounded by me trying not to knock anything off at the same time and keep it roughly square. I should have assembled most of it then painted then did the final assembly but as I do trucks so rarely it tends to be a learning experience each time.

After lots of wrestling and knocking the rear doors off a few times it’s finally done. It’s not too bad especially from a few inches back, up close not so much.

This is the first kit completed for the year and I may get one more done before I head off overseas on holiday.

Next week another care package from BNA will arrive.

I did a little more on the Ta 283 starting to box in the main u/c bay with plastic strip. It’s just too much of a look through effect for me not to do this. Not enough to bother witha photo though.

Week 33 Sunday update – it’s getting there.

Not much modelling time this week but at least progress. I’ve done some basic weathering and the tyres are almost done in their own PSR cycle which is paint, swear at the couple of mistakes then repeat in the other colour. Not made any easier by one colour being from a spray can so it’s a quick spray onto a tile then use an almost dead fine brush and do my best.

I’m up to the last stage of this I hope and have done both the number plate decals. These are pretty average efforts from Academy and took two attempts to get right and even then both of them split.

I also had to fix the headlights but that was mostly my fault in trying to do them as clear lights rather than hooded. Milliput has fixed that issue.

The Huma FW Ta283 got a little love with some lead in the nose but that’s all.

Week 32 Sunday update (late) – it’s another blackout

Hopefully this is the last of these planned events.

I did manage some work on the fuel truck including finishing an initial run at the wheels. I’ll have to do a second run to pick up a few mistakes. I’ve also done some initial weathering but more to come. Once I get the wheels on then it should be OK to finish with the small parts.

I’ve also done a bit on the Huma Fw Ta283 which somehow was missing the small parts sprue. As this is fairly easy to duplicate based on a screenshot a friend sent I will be doing a bit of fettling and dragging stuff from the spares box to fix this problem. As this is Luft46 no one can say I’m wrong. I’ll need to add some weight behind the front uc bay as it will be a tail sitter with those ramjets at the rear.

I’ve done this update on my tablet so feedback on the picture quality would be appreciated.

Week 31 Sunday update – it’s all relative(s)

I had Thursday off and for a change got a lot of modelling in. This included masking up and painting most of the Luftwaffe fuel truck.

Not so successful in this attempt was the Avrocar. In masking up I managed to pop the central fan into the closed up fuselage. After attempting to position and reglue this fan overnight I realised that this wouldn’t work and for the third time the fuselage halves were opened up.

Mind you today it decided to act up further and I lost one of the six flaps to the concrete floor monster whilst sanding so after some searching I’ve given up on this kit. It’s beaten me for the moment.

Despite not having much time for modelling over the weekend with lots of friends and family time I did at least start painting the six tyres. I’ve got a number of small parts to paint and put on the engine area but these need to wait till the fuel tank and tyres are on. They will need some weathering also.

And if you know you know. This was from the BBC TV series back in the 80’s.

Week 30 – it’s a blackout

So tonight I have a scheduled blackout whilst various electrical cables are fixed overnight.

There was a little work done yesterday but as I undertook a nice local walk and some gardening I was too tired to do anything today.

I got a walk into my local model shop today and picked up some paint and a new book on doing vegetation for dioramas at a good price. I also particularly like the Vallejo rattle can German Yellow which goes on nicely without a primer.

The Vallejo white grey is a suggested Luftwaffe nightfighter colour according to an article in SAM.

It’s been a week where lots of stuff I ordered came in including the Me210 from Italeri as well as some paint from Ironlak.

Next up is a tool set from Displae via Ali Express for the huge sum of $62. I’ve already used the sprue cutter.

On the modelling front I now have lots of stuff that need the Vallejo rattle can including the fuel truck and Minenraumer back wheels. Additionally I need to mask up and paint the Avrocar in Tamiyas rattle can silver.

Last up is something silly.

Week 29 – it’s some progress

Busy personal week so not much modelling time. I did get sone more done on the Avrocar with all the flaps back on. I’ve also polished the canopies with toothpaste and Future’d them.

The other work was on the fuel truck wheels which were sanded on the joint around the middle.

I also heard that Brengun/Hauler are releasing a 1.35 Wirzberg Reise radar which I’m looking at buying sometime. I’ve already built their lovely 1.72 version so I’m looking forward to this one. With the larger scale I am hoping to detail the actual control cabin area so that’s sent me down the rabbit hole of finding more details. And it’s a very deep hole.

The other area is I’ve bought a Me210 that will yield up a replacement canopy for the yellowed Toad resin one in the Me 265 kit. It will also yield the remote control gun pods that are also missing from the Toad kit. As the 265 was a redesign of the 210 using as many as possible of the 210 components this is a good starting point.

Week 28 Sunday update – it’s not much

Not much modelling actually. Actually the only thing done was some kit fondling with the last box of kits coming out.

This is the Luft 46 resin kits one with lots from Toad Resins and the old Czechmaster.

Hopefully this lurgy will go away by next weekend.

Week 27 Sunday update – it’s LAAAATE

Yep after 26 weeks of getting it done on time it all fell over. More due to just ran out of time.

Anyway more a week of stuff coming in the mail from Ali Express and BNA.

Here’s the BNA stuff – a rather large box with the 1.32 Hs 129 and some other stuff.

And the Ali Express stuff

I managed a little work on the Avrocar

And lastly I dragged out this part finished German fuel truck but more for a look, not sure whether this will get much love.

Week 26 Sunday update – it’s PSR time

It’s been both types of PSR this week – Putty Sand Repeat and Paint Swear Repeat (Hein wheels). The wheels aren’t well defined to do painting on especially on the inner surface. A rare gaffe for Tamiya.

After last week’s accidents with the Avrocar this week has just been catching back up with some more work on the undercarriage and more PSR on the join in the middle along with  the fans.

The kit fondling has stopped for the moment.

Week 25 – it’s a flying disaster

Well it’s been a week of various things. I’ve had a week off work and had time for some modelling at least.

I’ve had this blog for 11 years free for a total of 3GB uploaded. I finally hit that ceiling and am now paying $5 per month for an additional 3GB. The service from WordPress to effect this was great. I’m happy to pay this given I’ve had so long for free.

Below are some more shots from Expo I was unable to upload as I had hit that ceiling.

Next up is the weekend’s purchases.

This is my haul from Ali Express.

This week has seen me doing work on the Avrocar which looks like a Flying Saucer. Unfortunately over Friday and Saturday I managed to send it flying twice and that put me back to where I was a week ago as I had to repair it twice. In the meantime I did do work on the U/C at least.

And lastly a bad joke.
