Upstairs update

I got the new magnifying light set up for upstairs. Whilst it’s a much smaller desk space and it needs to be non smelly paints etc it is MUCH warmer than my usual garage space in winter.

I’m working on the Brengun Ta go plane. It’s a typical short run kit of a purpose built kamikaze craft. I’ve even used some wood grain decals for the first time. I think a white background colour rather than using a light wood would have worked better.

I’m still assembling the cockpit area so more on this later.

In the garage on slightly better days I’m still working on the Wirbelwind. The main body is now together and I’m adding small details. Lots of little modelling tasks including painting the rubber band tracks.

Given the wet cold weather expected this week I think it’s fitting to close with some images from recent walks I’ve done locally.

Post Expo round up

I found Expo a little disappointing this year. There were less traders and Models on show and a few of the clubs seemed to phone in their displays with one of them having only five kits on show and a small sign only.

Whilst I have grumbled in the past about the in-house catering the replacement van outside was also quite poor quality and expensive.

I did manage to pick up the Axis Wings bookazine which looks quite good. The next issue looks even better with some articles on radar units and the X4 amongst others.

Next up is a few favourites from the show.

Plain label ciggy packaging!
The last two are a scratchbuild of a Hammerhead from a 90s Sci fi show.

And lastly a shot of Campbell arcade again, still being worked on.

I arrived home with my other son moved in. The view from the model bench is now quite crowded.

I’m still doing work on the Wirbelwind but it’s been quite cold and wet lately so not many sessions. I’ve decided to leave the track depressors that Hase put in as I’ve futzed around enough with the new barrels and the Zimmerit. Otherwise AMS will kill this kit.

I got this kit for the bargain price of only $400.

It’s quite nice and the larger scale means they can show the mesh unlike the 1.72 version but there is a lot of resin to be cut up and sanded. I’m not going to be starting this for a while.

Eff Part 2

This is the area to my left filled with reference material, sprue and other less used tools including extra paint brushes.
These drawers are behind me on my other bench and currently host the second Biber trailer kit I recently obtained and reference material for that as well as now storing old tapes and CDs. I’m sure other things will find their way into the drawers but not yet.
And here’s the Wirbelwind – wheels are mostly painted and most of the Zimmerit is on but another push is needed to get it all ready to assemble. The brass guns are now mostly ready to attach with new holes drilled.
Departing son.

I’m off to Model Expo on Sunday.

Eff it’s cold and off to Melbourne

The cold weather has really set in so it’s the season for thick jackets and fan heaters in my garage. The other half of the garage is now storage for my departing son to the UK and my other son moving back in.

I’m seriously considering a part time move upstairs to my study for much of the next few months. It’s not as well equipped  but some modelling is better than none.

There has been a slight rearrangement of the desk area to hopefully make it a little less messy and stop me losing stuff.

Much less tools and paints at the back now. Less useful stuff is now to my left and a lot of paint is packed away apart from the Xtracrylics I’ve thrown out.
